Value-Based Drafting
What is Value-Based Drafting? In simple terms, value-based drafting is the practice of drafting players in each round of the draft with the highest value or worth. You probably already knew this right? Many Fantasy Football Championships are had through good drafting. In order to start on the road to a League Title it is imperative to start with a championship draft. How do you have a champioship draft? You start with Draft Champs. You will find many publications with cheat sheets and rankings by position. Most of these publications are very good at apple-to-apple and orange-to-orange comparisons of the different position players (i.e. QB-to-QB and RB-to-RB, etc.) What these magazines fail to tell you is how that top ranked QB stacks up against that top ranked RB or WR, and where each should fall in YOUR draft. To make these apple-to-orange comparisons you must use value-based drafting to create your draft day cheat sheet. Value-based drafting is based on providing a weighted value on how each player ranks among its peer group, and then comparing this index value against the other skill positions. This is where Draft Champs excels. The Draft Champs staff has used value-based drafting to help finish in the top one-third of their leagues for years. It is a proven method for drafting the best available player in each and every round of YOUR draft. Don't be left behind and go to your draft with a generic cheat sheet that everyone else is using. Instead, go to your draft with our Draft Guide that is tailored to YOUR league's scoring format and watch other owners in your league cringe and moan at your every draft pick. How does it work? After entering your league's scoring format and starting line-up requirements into the Draft Guide a Draft Champs Index, or DCI, is calculated for each player. It is this index value that allows you to compare QB's, RB's, WR's, TE's, etc. against each other (apple-to-orange comparisons). The Draft Champs Index is a market value of how players stack up against each other regardless of postion. The higher the index value the higher the player will be ranked in your draft. To further explain how this works look at the following example.
Where should these players fall in the draft? Which player has the most value? If you said Player M your are RIGHT! As you can see Player M has the highest index value although it ranks 4th in scoring. It is the point differential that makes Player M stand out from the rest of the field. To answer the question on draft selection, if all teams were drafting based on index value the following is a sample of how each player would fall in the draft.
In order to analyze our sample draft let's first give some assumptions to see how it was created. To keep things simple we assumed a 3 team league with each team required to draft one QB, RB, and WR. To further drive home the point of value and see how each of these teams would have faired over the season let's take a look at some point totals using the information from the above tables.
As you can see Team 1 who drafted Player M first scored the most points in the league giving them the best possible chance to win more games. Even if Team 1 drafted Player M first and then the next two lowest scoring players they still would have scored more points than Teams 2 and 3. This shows how powerful Value-Based Drafting is and how you can separate yourself from other fantasy owners in your league. The beauty of value-based drafting is that it takes out all the subjective thinking and emotions involved in draft day decisions and helps you draft players based on value alone. It is all about point differential between a player and his peers (i.e. players at the same position), and then comparing these values to other position players. Let Draft Champs do the work for you. The above examples show how a basic value-based cheat sheet can be generated. Draft Champs has taken this one step further and has created a proprietary formula which makes adjustments and puts emphasis on ceratin player positions. This is what makes Draft Champs Draft Guide different than other draft guides on the Internet today. It is these types of little details that Draft Champs does not overlook, and in turn has created the most dominating draft guide available. After three seasons of testing and tweaking the formula to create a powerful draft ranking system, we felt comfortable enough to share this Draft Guide with the fantasy football community. All you have to do is enter in your league's scoring data into our Draft Guide and we do the rest. Give us a try this season and you won't be disappointed. Remember, if you want to be a Champ you have to Draft like a Champ. |
